About ToonieSlots

Two people, a C$30 deposit at each site, and a polar bear from a two-dollar coin.

Toonie

ToonieSlots is a small site. No editorial team, no content studio, no "our experts". There are two of us, in Canada, and we have both been playing at online casinos long enough to have been burned by bonus terms we did not read. We started writing things down so we would stop making the same mistakes. Then we put the notes online.

What we actually do

For every casino we review we make an account, deposit around C$30 of our own money, open the cashier and screenshot it, try the live chat with a real question, and play the welcome bonus far enough to see the max bet rule and the game weighting in action. We check whether the site quotes in Canadian dollars or just says "dollars". We note when the registration form defaulted to the wrong country, when the logo was a Halloween version, when the promotions page and the bonus card disagreed by a few hundred dollars. Those details are the review. The rest is arithmetic.

Everything we write about a casino comes from what we saw on its pages at the time we looked. If a site did not show a payment method before sign-up, our review says "not listed", not "no". If we could not find the wagering multiplier, we tell you to read the terms rather than guess a number. We would rather have a shorter review than an invented one.

How we make money

The casino links on this site are tracked. If you click one, sign up and deposit, the casino pays us a commission. That is how the site stays up. It does not change the bonus you get, the terms you play under, or the price of anything: the offer is the same whether you arrive through us or type the address yourself. What it does mean is that we have a financial interest in you signing up somewhere, and you should read us knowing that. We try to earn the click by telling you what is wrong with each site before you go. If the cons section of a review is thin, we have not finished it.

We do not take payment for ratings. We do not run "sponsored" reviews. If a casino stops paying its affiliates or its players, it comes off the list.

How we rate

Five things, in this order:

  • Cashier. Is Interac there, is CAD there, what are the minimums, how long do payouts take, and did we have to sign up to find any of that out.
  • Bonus terms. Wagering, max bet, validity, game weighting, win caps. A big headline with bad terms rates below a small one with clear terms.
  • Licence. Who issued it, whether we could find the number, and what it means in a dispute. Curacao and Anjouan are both light-touch; we say so every time.
  • Support. Whether live chat is a person, how long it took, and whether the answer matched the terms.
  • Mobile. Browser, web app or store app, and whether the cashier and the live tables work on a phone.

Games count for less than you might expect. Every site has thousands of slots from the same forty studios. The difference between 9,000 and 15,000 is not a reason to pick one over the other. The difference between a C$7 max bet and no max bet is.

Who Toonie is

Toonie is the polar bear on the back of the Canadian two-dollar coin. The real coin has had a polar bear on it since 1996. Ours has opinions. He gets one line per page, usually the thing one of us said out loud while reading the terms, and he does not do puns.

What we are not

Not a regulator, a lawyer, or a tax adviser. Not registered with iGaming Ontario, and neither are the sites we review, which is why our links do not work in Ontario; the Ontario page explains. Not a place to get help with gambling, but the responsible gambling page lists the people who are, by province.

If something here is wrong, or a cashier has changed since we looked, tell us. We would rather fix it than find out from a comment.

QUESTIONS

Questions and answers

Short and specific.

01Do you get paid by the casinos?

Yes, a commission when someone signs up and deposits through a tracked link. It does not change the terms or bonus you receive, and it does not buy a rating.

02Do you really deposit at every site?

Yes, around C$30 each. The cashier screenshots, chat transcripts and bonus notes in the reviews come from those accounts.

03Why does a review say 'not listed' instead of 'no'?

Because some sites hide the cashier until you register. If we did not see a method, we say we did not see it, rather than claim it is absent.

04Are you licensed in Ontario?

No, and neither are the casinos we review. Our outbound links are blocked for Ontario residents. See the Ontario page.

05Who is Toonie?

The polar bear from the Canadian two-dollar coin. He gets one line per page and no puns.
