WHAT IT IS
Wanted Dead or a Wild in short
Wanted Dead or a Wild is the Hacksaw Gaming western from September 2021, and the game that made the studio a name on streams. Five reels, five rows, 15 lines, and a VS symbol that turns a whole reel wild with a multiplier up to 100x when a duel goes your way. Three different bonus rounds, three buy prices, and a 12,500x cap.
Canadians search for it because the Duel at Dawn clips are everywhere and because the buy menu runs from 80x to 400x, so people argue about which one is worth it. The base game is quiet and the hit rate is low. You are paying for the bonus, one way or the other.
HOW IT PLAYS
Base game and symbols
Fifteen fixed lines across a 5 by 5 grid, paying left to right. The low symbols are card ranks on wanted posters, the high ones are the gang, and the plain wild fills in for anything except the VS and the bonus symbols. Most base-game spins pay nothing; the published hit rate is under one spin in five.
The VS symbol is the whole game. It lands with two gunslingers on it, and if it is part of a winning line a duel plays out and the winner expands to fill the reel as a wild carrying a multiplier from 2x to 100x. Two expanded VS reels on the same win add their multipliers together, then that total multiplies the line wins. A 20x and a 50x reel on a C$2 line win is C$140. A VS symbol on a spin with no line through it does nothing, and that is most of them. Fill all five reels with VS and the whole grid is treated as wild.
Spins are quick and the balance drains at a steady rate between features. Most casino bonuses cap the stake at about C$5 to C$7 a spin and exclude the bonus buy, so on bonus money you are waiting for three scatters the slow way.
Features
VS symbols: duel when part of a win, the winner fills the reel as a wild with a 2x to 100x multiplier
The Great Train Robbery: 3 scatters give 10 spins with sticky wilds
Duel at Dawn: 3 scatters give 10 spins with far more VS symbols
Dead Man's Hand: collect wilds and multipliers over respins, then 3 showdown spins
Bonus buy at 80x, 200x or 400x stake
THE FEATURE
Bonus round
There are three. The Great Train Robbery needs 3 train scatters and gives 10 spins where every wild sticks for the round; it is the calm one, 80x to buy. Duel at Dawn needs 3 duel scatters, also 10 spins, with VS symbols landing far more often; this is where the 12,500x lives and it costs 200x. Dead Man's Hand needs 3 dead scatters and runs as respins on a 5 by 5 grid, 3 at a time, where wilds and multipliers get collected to the side; three blank spins in a row end the collection and three showdown spins place the collected wilds at random with the multiplier applied. It is 400x to buy.
A dead Duel at Dawn is 10 spins with two VS symbols that never sit on a paying line. You get 15x back on a 200x buy. It happens more than the clips suggest.
OUR TAKE
Should you play Wanted Dead or a Wild?
Play it if you want a line slot where one symbol decides everything and you can afford to buy the 200x round a few times without flinching. Skip it for bonus wagering or a C$30 deposit; the base game gives you almost nothing to clear wagering with. If you like the western look but want cheaper, steadier spins, Dead or Alive 2 is the older game this one copied the mood from, and Tombstone RIP is the other western for people who like pain.

Most people buy Duel at Dawn at 200x because it is the only round with a real shot at the top end. The Great Train Robbery at 80x is cheaper and pays smaller. Dead Man's Hand at 400x is a long collection that can end on three blank spins with very little in the pot.
02Can I play it with a casino bonus in Canada?
Usually, with the stake capped at around C$5 to C$7 a spin and all three buy options excluded while bonus funds are active. With a hit rate under 20% and high volatility, it is a poor way to clear wagering. Use it on real money and pick a steadier game for the bonus.
03What RTP does Wanted Dead or a Wild have?
The top build is 96.38%, but Hacksaw also sells 94.55%, 92.33% and 88.42% versions and the casino chooses. The number is printed on the info page inside the game. If it reads 88.42%, close the game; that is a very expensive version to play.
RTP, max win and release date checked against gambling.com, hacksawgaming.com, olbg.com in October 2026. Casinos can run a different RTP build; the game's own info page shows the one you are on.
