KYC verification at online casinos
What the casino wants, when to send it, and how to avoid the week-long hold that most one-star reviews are about.

KYC stands for know your customer. It is the identity check every licensed casino runs before paying you out, and most run it only when you ask for money. That timing is the whole problem. You deposit, you win, you request a withdrawal, and only then does a form appear asking for documents. Do it on day one instead.
1. Government ID
A passport, driver's licence or provincial photo ID. Both sides for a licence. The whole card must be in frame, all four corners, with the name and date of birth readable. Take it on a plain table in daylight, not under a kitchen light that throws glare across the hologram.
2. Proof of address, under three months old
A utility bill, bank statement or phone bill with your name and the same address you typed at registration. Most sites want it dated within the last three months. A screenshot of the PDF from your bank's website is fine as long as the full page shows, including the bank's name and the date. A letter addressed to "occupant" is not.
3. Sometimes a photo of your card
If you deposited by Visa or Mastercard, expect a request for a photo of the front of the card with the middle eight digits covered. Tape or a finger both work. Leave the first six and last four digits visible and the name. Never send the back.
4. Sometimes a selfie
A selfie holding your ID next to your face, or a short video through a verification app. Some sites skip this for small withdrawals and ask for it when the amount gets large, which is why reviews describe checks that "restart" after a big win.
Why uploading first saves days
The check itself takes a day or two at a well-run site. The queue is the issue. Your documents go into the same pile as everyone else's, and your withdrawal sits in pending until the pile reaches you. Published reviews put real numbers on this. Trustpilot reviewers at Rolling Slots report KYC taking around 5 days. At MyEmpire verification is listed as 24 to 48 hours but reviewers report up to 10 days. Spinlander only starts KYC after the first deposit, which is why its first withdrawals are slow. Need for Spin players who passed KYC before asking for money report Interac and crypto payouts inside a day; those who did not describe a second round of document requests and a week of waiting.
The fix is boring. After you register, go to the account or profile page, find Verification or Documents, and upload the ID and the address proof before you deposit. Then play. When you win, the withdrawal goes straight to the payment queue instead of the document queue.
What goes wrong
- Blurry. The most common rejection. If you cannot read the licence number on your own phone screen, they cannot either. Retake it.
- Cropped. A corner missing, or the top edge of the bill cut off so the date is gone. The whole document, every time.
- Expired. An ID past its expiry date fails, full stop. Check before you upload.
- Name mismatch. You registered as Mike and the bill says Michael, or the address has a unit number the form did not. Edit the account details first, then upload.
- Wrong file. A HEIC photo from an iPhone that the upload form silently rejects. Export as JPG or PDF.
- Someone else's payment method. A card or Interac account in a partner's name is the fastest way to a frozen balance. Deposit from your own accounts only.
Keep copies of everything you send and the date you sent it. If a site asks for the same document twice, reply in chat with the original upload date. It is on file, and saying so politely tends to move things along. Our payment methods page covers which deposit methods trigger the card photo request, and the withdrawal guide covers what happens after the documents clear.

Questions and answers
Short and specific.
01When should I upload KYC documents at a casino?
Right after registering, before the first deposit. The check takes the same time either way, but doing it early means your first withdrawal is not stuck in the document queue.
02How long does casino verification take?
Sites advertise 24 to 48 hours. Published reviews report around 5 days at Rolling Slots and up to 10 days at MyEmpire, and longer when a big win triggers a second check.
03Why was my ID rejected?
Almost always blurry, cropped or expired. Retake it flat on a table in daylight with all four corners in frame, and check the expiry date before you upload.
