The max bet rule with an active bonus

The max bet rule is the clause in every bonus terms page that caps the size of a single stake while bonus money is in your balance. It is there to stop people betting C$100 a spin on a C$50 bonus and cashing out the first big hit. Fair enough. The problem is that it is enforced after the fact, by software, with no warning, and it catches people who had no idea it existed.

1. Know the number at your site

The limits we found in printed terms and published reviews. Rolling Slots C$7. SpinMills C$8. Red Dog and Slots Empire $10 (plain dollars; pick CAD at sign-up). Malina and RTbet C$7.50. FairPari EUR 5. The figure is per spin or per hand, total, not per line. A 20-line slot at 50 cents a line is a C$10 bet.

2. Understand how it is enforced

Nobody stops the spin. The game lets you bet C$12 and pays the win. The check happens when you request a withdrawal and the risk team runs your bet history against the bonus window. One stake over the cap, even one, and the standard clause lets them void all winnings from the bonus and return your deposit, or less. 3. Watch the buy-bonus button

Buy-bonus (or bonus buy, feature buy) lets you pay a lump sum to jump straight to the free spins round. The price is usually 50 to 100 times the base stake. A C$1 base bet with a 100x buy is a C$100 single bet, which is over every cap on our list by a mile. Most terms either exclude buy-bonus games during a bonus or count the purchase as one stake. 4. Watch autoplay

Autoplay is fine as long as the bet is set before you start. The trap is the stake-up button during a session. Some games remember the last bet size across titles, so a C$10 stake from a cash session last week can reload as the default when you open the same slot with a bonus. Check the bet display before the first spin of every game, every time.

5. Set a bet size that stays under

Pick a stake well below the cap, not at it. Currency conversion and rounding can push a C$7.00 bet to C$7.05 on a game priced in euros. A simple rule: half the cap. At Rolling Slots that is C$3.50; at Red Dog, $5. Then set it once in the slot's bet menu and leave it. If the game only offers steps like C$5 and C$10, take C$5.

1. Open the terms page and find the max bet line.
2. Halve it.
3. Set that stake in the first game and screenshot the bet display.
4. Do not use buy-bonus or change stake mid-session.
5. When the bonus is cleared or removed, bet whatever you like.

What goes wrong

• Per line versus total. You read C$7 as per line. It is per spin.
• One big spin at the end. You are C$20 short of finishing wagering, so you fire one C$20 spin to be done. That single spin voids the lot.
• Table games. A C$5 blackjack hand with a C$5 double-down is a C$10 stake at some sites. Side bets add on top.
• The bonus you forgot. A free spins drop or a reload credited automatically puts you back under the cap without a notice. Check the balance page for an active bonus before you raise the stake.

The fix for all of it is the same: if you want to bet big, play with cash and skip the bonus.
